Things to Do in Shanklin

Shanklin is a place that truly has something for everyone. From the bustling shops, theatres and gardens of the clifftop town, to the esplanade below, with wide stretches of sandy beaches providing a traditional British seafront. The beach itself has earned awards for the quality of both its sand and its water, making it a wonderful place to both sunbathe with a book and explore the watersports activities on offer.

Just a short walk from the Shanklin hotel, Shanklin Old Village is one of the Isle of Wight’s most scenic towns, where thatched cottages line the lanes around the legendary Crab Inn. From here, you can take a peaceful stroll to Shanklin Chine – a breathtaking natural gorge that has drawn visitors since 1817, boasting a 45 foot waterfall for the perfect photo op! The nearby Rylstone Gardens are home to stunning floral displays and even free concerts on summer evenings. Alternatively, Shanklin Theatre is the largest on the island and hosts a full programme of comedy, music and live shows.

For those who want to explore the surrounding area, Sandown is just a little ways down the coast, with seaside paths offering a wonderful walk there. Or you can head the other direction to the pretty village of Bonchurch.
