Overview

Located between Swansea and Cardiff, Porthcawl was originally a port for the iron and steel industries and still has some interesting features from that period, including the oldest maritime warehouse in Wales, an attractive harbour and the last coal and gas powered lighthouse in the country. It developed as a seaside resort after the Great War and the splendid Grand Pavilion dates from 1932. Nearby is Kenfig Nature Reserve, a site of national importance. This attractive seaside resort offers numerous facilities, including the world famous Porthcawl golf course, the finest course in Wales and one of several in the area, an expansive sandy beach and Coney Beach, a fairground with a variety of rides and amusements which was named after the famous New York venue. To the East of the town lies the River Ogmore and the beautiful Glamorgan Heritage Coast.

Day 1 - Outward Travel

Day 2 - Cardiff including Guided City Tour

With a charming mix of old and new, capital Cardiff is where we’re off today. We'll enjoy a guided tour of this compact city with chance to see the historic castle, the magnificent stadium and redeveloped waterfront area before enjoying some free time to explore at leisure. With plenty of museums, Victorian and Edwardian shopping arcades and bountiful cafes and restaurants this is a wonderful place to visit.

Day 3 - Swansea & Bracelet Bay (Mumbles)

Visit Swansea – the city by the sea! Why not visit one of the many museums celebrating the city’s maritime past or enjoy the popular high street shopping? The writer, Dylan Thomas was born and raised in Swansea and there is also a permanent exhibition in the city dedicated to his life and works. We continue on to enjoy the magnificent scenery of Swansea Bay as we make our way to the seaside town of Mumbles on Bracelet Bay.

Day 6 - Penderyn Distillery & Brecon Beacons National Park

Penderyn Distillery is situated on the edge of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. We take a tour and learn more about the history and heritage of the award-winning whiskies distilled here before enjoying a sample in the Tasting Bar! You will also enjoy a scenic drive through the spectacular scenery of the Brecon Beacons. The ever-changing landscape includes four epic mountain ranges, grassy moorlands and heather-clad hills. We make are way to Brecon – the beating heart of the National Park. This picturesque market town is famed for its Georgian architecture and has plenty of attractions, shops and cafes to enjoy.

There are spectacular panoramic views of the Bristol Channel and coast from the bar and many bedrooms.
