A short distance away from Bideford, you will find Clovelly, an ancient picturesque fishing village. Once owned by the Queen of England in the Elizabethan days, it is still privately owned, which has helped to preserve its character. As it is privately owned, there is a small admission fee. You won’t find vehicles in Clovelly, with a steep, pedestrianised, cobbled main street; donkeys and sledges are used to help with transportation.
